16 athletes, their parents and coaches travelled the almost 6 hour journey to Rosapenna in Donegal this weekend to represent the club. On a beautiful course surrounded by water and sand dunes but in almost freezing, wet and windy conditions our athletes gave their all for their team-mates. St. Cronans had a great day and our athletes took home a huge number of medals.

Our U12 team took bronze in an electric race containing over 160 of the fastest U12’s in Ireland and Northern Ireland with the winner completing the 2km course in 6m 42, almost 20 seconds faster than last year. This team, who great things are expected of in future years, were only 5 points off a silver medal this time but have the ability with more hard work to reach the very top. This is also a great target for our current U11 athletes to aim to better for next year’s event.

Our U14 team took silver in another quick race. This was a great achievement considering some of our athletes got knocked in a very bunched start. They were only 2 points away from Gold when everything was totted up. A superb achievement and they are continuing to show their ability at the top of All-Ireland cross country running. It will be exciting to see them potentially progress to further honours in future years if they continue to work hard.

Our individual runners also put in strong performances, despite some injuries on the start line, with many taking home further medals as individuals, for their county and for their province.

In total, St. Cronan’s took home well over 20 All-Ireland Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.
