The Munster U9 โ U11 indoor championships were held in Nenagh on Sunday and our young athletes put in some very strong performances in the Long Jump, Shot Put, Sprints and Middle Distance.
There was a huge turnout of athletes from across Munster and even some famous Olympians (Marian & Rob Heffernan) made an appearance to watch these amazing young athletes in action!
There were too many outstanding performances to mention them all so please see results here (note that there were technical difficulties with timings/entrants in some heats). The standard of competition at our club was shown to be extremely strong with, for example, 5 of our athletes finishing in the top 10 in one of the middle distance age groups and Rob Heffernan expressing his surprise at the very high standard on display.
Among the medal winners were
๐ฅSilver for Sean & ๐ต๏ธ4th for Davin in the U9 Long Jump
๐ต๏ธ5th for Aidan in the U9 60m Sprint final
๐ฅGold for Lillie and ๐ต๏ธ4th for Katelyn in the U10 Long Jump
๐ต๏ธ4th for Lillie in the U10 500m
๐ฅGold for Sam and ๐ฅSilver for Micheal in the U10 500m
๐ฅGold for Rรญain in the U11 600m
There were some very memorable performances but special mention to a brilliant run by Sean in the U11 600m. He had to endure 3 starts, 2 falls, losing his shoe after being tripped, being pulled back on the last lap and was only just pipped for a medal with all the spectators marvelling at his toughness. It was a really brave performance that made all the coaches very proud to watch.

The All-Ireland schools cross country was also held this weekend and we had athletes, who qualified for their schools from the Munster competition, running in a number of events. There were some great performances here in difficult conditions on a tough course with standout results from Oran who finished a brilliant ๐ฅ3rd in the minor race and Daithi who finished 14th in the junior race. It was also great to see some strong performances from a number of our other athletes including Aoibheann who ran really well in the junior race. She has stepped up into a serious competitive level in recent months.
