It was a successful few weekends for our athletes at the All-Ireland Indoors in Athlone with the club taking home 2 gold and a silver medals, a new All-Ireland record and lots of very special performances resulting in many new PB’s for our athletes. Qualifying for these championships was a massive achievement in itself with only outstanding performances making it through to this final stage, especially considering the standards in Munster at the moment.

High Jump

In the U12 High Jump both Jack and Sean performed really well. Jack eventually finishing 5th and just 10cm off a medal. Both boys have fantastic potential and are only just beginning their high jump careers.

In the U13 competition Joe jumped an enormous 1.40m, which was the same height as 4th place overall. He was only 5cm off a medal in the tightest of possible margins. Joe has a brilliant spring in his jumps and can jump both long and high to the highest of standards in the country.

In the U17 High Jump Darragh took gold 🥇in an outstanding performance, jumping an enormous 180 cm or 5 ft 11inches. Having only just returned to training recently with St. Cronan's this victory was really special for a fantastic all round athlete.

Long Jump

In the U12 Long Jump Daire leaped to a massive 4m 12, securing 5th and oh so close to a medal. He has fantastic jumping ability and is sure to jump even longer in the months ahead.

In the U13 Long Jump both Joe and Jonah jumped really well and made it through the heats to the final jump-off. In the end, Jonah secured a silver 🥈with a jump of 4m 61, 4cm off 1st and Joe 6th with 4m 41 in an excellent result for the club.

In the U17 Long Jump Thomas and Darragh performed well with Darragh making it through to the final jump-off with a best jump of 5m 48 on the day.

Triple Jump

In the U17 Triple Jump Darragh was just pipped for a medal by 10cm taking 4th place with a huge 11m 36

Shot Put

In the U19 Shot Put Emily threw the 4kg for a distance of 6m 87 and 8th position.

Relays

The U12 relay team got their first taste of the Athlone track running 2min 05 and taking 4th in a very fast heat. This was a great introduction to a track that they will hopefully run on many times in the years ahead.

Sprints & Hurdles

Juliana, on her first time running in the All-Ireland indoors, set a really fast time of 8.28 but was just pipped for a place in the final by 8/100's of a second. This was a great learning experience for Juliana and she is sure to improve her times even further in the months ahead as she is only just beginning her competitive sprinting season.

Emily ran a sparkling new PB in the U19 400m, taking 9 seconds off her time in Munster

Middle Distance

The U13 600m was run over 2 timed heats with the overall winner declared on time rather than a final. This made it an extremely tricky event to navigate as athletes had to consider the competition in their own heat and athlete times in the other heat. In the end though it didn’t seem to matter to Jonah as he took a super gold🥇 medal for the club, running 1min 37.47 in a new All-Ireland record. Race video - heats 1 and 2 here

One thing that stands out among all these athletes is their dedication to their sport and the effort they have put in. Their hard work shines through. With the strength in depth on the way among our younger age groups and their super work ethic we are sure to have many great outings at this track in the years ahead.

A very special thank you to the coaches, parents and club admin who made this all possible!
